You Have Been Doing Your Nails in the Wrong Order

I'm the founder of VELLUVA, and before I built it I worked as a manicurist. I watched people buy every nail product out there and still get nowhere, because the problem was never the products. It was the order they used them in.

The part nobody tells you

Here is the thing I had to learn the hard way, back when I was working with nails every day. You can own the best cuticle oil in the world and it will do almost nothing, if you put it on at the wrong moment.

I watched it play out on hand after hand. Someone would sit down frustrated, show me the cuticle oils they already owned, and ask why none of them did anything. Good products, expensive products, and an hour later the hands still looked rough. The oil just sat there and went a little greasy.

The reason took me longer to admit than it should have. Oil cannot sink into skin that is already covered in dry, dead skin. Every one of those oils was being fed to a surface that could not take it in. The products were right. The order was wrong.

The old way versus the right way

Think about how most of us actually do our nails.

The old way: notice they look rough, maybe push the skin back with a metal tool, maybe clip a hangnail, then brush oil over the top and hope. The dead skin is still there. The oil sits on it. Nothing really changes, so we book a salon appointment instead and pay to have someone else do a better version of the same thing.

The right way is almost embarrassingly simple. You reset first. You lift the dead skin and tidy the edge before you condition anything. Then, and only then, the oil has clean skin to sink into, and it finally does what it promised on the bottle. Same products you already believe in. Different order. Completely different hands.

The routine I build everything around now

This is what I do now, and it is the whole reason VELLUVA exists. Three steps, under a minute.

Step 1, Reset. The VELLUVA pen. One ceramic tip glides along the edge of the nail, lifts the dead skin and tidies hangnails, and lays down a base of three nourishing oils as it goes.
